Twin towns

Borås has three twin towns in the Nordic countries and partnership with a town in Germany.

Twin towns

S:t Michel
S:t Michel, or Mikkeli, became the first of our twin towns. The contacts originate from 1940 when Finland was under attack from the Soviet Union and many Swedes advocated that Sweden should support the Finns in their struggle. S:t Michel by the lake Saimaa has 46 500 inhabitants and is the seat for the county of East Finland, which includes the middle of Savolaks and a part of East Tavastland near the russian border.

Molde
Also Molde in Norway was established as a twin town during World War II, in 1944. Molde has 24 200 inhabitants and is situated by the Molde fiord, in the Möre and Romdal county. Molde is often called "the town of roses" due to a pleasant climate, and is known for a yearly jazz festival.

Vejle
Vejle and Borås started out as twin towns in 1947. Vejle is the capital of  Region South Denmark and the largest of the twin towns, 104 100 inhabitants after extensive municipal mergers in Denmark. Vejle is situated by the Vejle fiord on the east coast of Jylland and is known as a cultural city with a theatre and an arts museum with contemporary Danish art. As Borås, Vejle has a tradition in textile industry.

Partnership

Espelkamp
In 1995, Borås and the german town Espelkamp agreed to form a "partnership". This does not include regular meetings, as the contacts with the twins town do. The relations with Espelkamp goes back on the humanitary work that Rev. Birger Forell from Borås did in Germany during the war. Espelkamp has 27 000 inhabitants and is situated in the Minden-Lübbecke district in east Westfalen.
