The home-help shall make it easier to keep living in one's own home. The support given by the home-help is decided by individual needs, within the limits for a normal effort.

A great deal of the care is carried out by members of the family. A husband, wife or cohabitor is obliged to do his/her part of the work in the home and to assist the person receiving care.

Home-help may be granted for medical reasons, due to a physical or mental handicap, or for social reasons. Home-help can comprise cleaning, shopping of everyday commodities, cooking, personal care and security alarm.
