Rules for transportation service

Transportation service replaces public transport for those who have severe difficulties to travel on their own or with public transport. The service is carried out with a car or a special bus.

The officers at the Technical department decides about permits for transportation service. There is always an investigation to form the basis for each individual decision. The handicap must be remaining for at least sex months.

To travel by transportation service is to travel by a public service. To travel by a public service is to travel together with other people.

This means that you may have to share the car or bus with others who have more or less the same route, and that you can not always travel the shortest way to your destination.

Permit for transportation service
Your permit states when it expires, and if you have the right to bring a follower. Be ready to show your permit to the driver, along with your identity card.

Your permit might be tried again if your health improves and makes it possible for you to use public transport. You are obliged to inform the transportation officer of all changes relevant to your travel permit.

How may I travel?
You may travel by transportation service within the municipality, and 10 kilometres into a neighbouring municipality. You may travel as often as you want, as long as there are vehicles available.

Once the journey has started, you can not change your destination. The driver will not stop along the way, and will not wait for you while you go on an errand. Exceptions: You can make a short visit at the churchyard, you can collect money from a cash dispenser, you can fetch or leave children at school or pre-school. On such occasions, you will be charged double fare.

You can bring the same amount of luggage as one usually carries on a bus; that is one bag in each hand, or a suitcase. The driver will help you with your luggage. If you have more luggage, you must arrange that transport yourself.

When may I travel?
By car, you can travel all days in the week between 5.30 a.m. and 12 p.m. By our buses, you can travel weekdays between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m., saturdays and holidays between 8 p.m. and 12 p.m. The journey must be ordered no later than 11.30 p.m. Christmas eve, all traffic by car is cancelled at 7 p.m. and by bus at 9.30 p.m.

Night services
Friday nights and Saturday nights, the time for transportation service is extended. The journey shall be over no later than 2.45 a.m. The trip must be ordered no later than 12 p.m. if it is by car, Friday 4 p.m. if it is by bus.

What is the cost?
Your fare is the same as with the public transport, when payed in ready money. Also the zone fare system is the same as with the public transport.

Night tariff applies after 12 p.m.

You pay the driver. You do not give any tip.

Monthly season ticket
If you are employed, you can pay a monthly fee for your travels to and from work. If you for others reasons travel often between two fixed places, you can pay those journeys in the same way. The fee runs with calendar months.

Season tickets are ordered at the Streets department, tel. 35 50 50. You will get a paying-in form. Be sure to pay well in advance — you can not travel until the payment has reached the Technical department.

May I bring someone?
If you can´t travel on your own, you may free of charge bring a follower who helps you. The right to bring a follower must be stated in your travel permit. A person who himself/herself has the right to use transportation service can not be a follower. The follower is meant for help only during the journey. You will not be granted the right to a follower because you — for instance — need help to carry goods you have bought.

If you want to bring a fellow traveller who is not a follower, you must say so when you order your journey. The fellow traveller pays the same fare as you. A passenger who is not entitled to transportation service must not cause any detour.

How do I order my journey?
Important information when you order your journey:

  • Your name and / or your national registration number
  • When you wish to start your journey, and / or when you wish to arrive at your destination
  • Exact addresses for your starting point and for your destination
  • Number of passengers, and if more than one has a travel permit
  • Means of assistance you will bring

If possible, order your return trip at the same time.

All travels are ordered at tel. 35 50 50 (text telephone 15 00 50). Our service desk is open all days between 5.30 a .m. and 12 p.m.

Cancellation
If you want to cancel a journey, call tel. 35 50 51. Be sure to cancel if you are not going to travel. The Streets department is entitled to a driving up-fee of 200 SEK if you have not cancelled your trip. However, this fee will not be charged for an isolated occasion.

A few suggestions ...
If you have an exact time to meet, order your journey as soon as possbile. You can order up to 14 days in advance.

Your journey might be co-ordinated with someone else's; therefore you can not always get the time of departure that you wish.

If you have regular and repeated times when you wish to travel, for instance to work or to courses, you can make a fixed order.

Without notifying, the Technical department is entitled to delay your departure with up to 10 minutes.

If you have to travel by bus
If you sit in a wheel-chair and must travel by one of our buses; be sure to order your journey well in advance, and be ready to give alternative times for your departure.

If there is a staircase at your destination, the stairs must be fit for a climber, as well as your wheel-chair. When in doubt, ask at our service desk.

If you sit in a wheel-chair, we pick you up and leave you indoors. Other passengers shall be outdoors and ready to travel at the appointed time. Our vehicles have a tight schedule and can not wait.

To travel in another municipality
If you occasionally are in another municipality, you may travel by transportation service according to the rules in that municipality. As in Borås, there is no limit to the number of journeys.

When you travel in another municipality, you must have a special credit note, which you give to the driver. You can order such a note from your transportation services officer. Order at least 14 days in advance to make sure that you get the note before you leave.

What is the cost?
You pay fare according to the rules in the municipality where you are. You pay the driver, except in Stockholm where you will be billed.

Nationwide transportation service
Nationwide transportation service is allowed persons who, due to a large and permanent handicap, must travel in an expensive way.

We always choose the most inexpensive way of travelling that you can handle. That means that your journey may be made by train, plane, transportation service bus, or car. If you need more help than you can get from the personnel, you may be granted a follower.

You must apply for nationwide transportation service with the officers at the Street department no later than a fortnight before your journey. Around holidays like Christmas and Easter, the application perhaps must be made even earlier. Your transportation service officer can advise you.

When you have got a permit for nationwide transportation service, you must order your journey. If you are to travel by car, you must order at least two weekdays in advance. If you are to go with bus, you must order at least five weekdays in advance. Around holidays like Christmas and Easter, the order perhaps must be made even earlier.

Your transportation service officer gives more information about nationwide transportation service.

Public transport
Västtrafik has during the latter years put great effort into making all public transport easy to access for the handicapped. The city buses have a lowered floor and "curtsy" at the bus stops to make it easier to climb on and off.

More information about public transport can be obtained in the time table, or from tel. 0771-41 43 00.

If you have a transportation service permit, you can travel with public transport free of charge. To do so, you must first go to "Tidpunkten", the public transport office, at Södra torget and show them your permit and your identification card. You will then receive a monthly season ticket.

Journeys to medical care
Reimbursement for journeys to medical care is regulated by law. A special unit at the Västra Götalandsregionen is responsible for this and will give information at tel. 17 48 95.

Permit holders order such journeys at tel 020-91 90 90. It is regarded as a journey to medical care when you travel to hospital, local health care centre, private practice, physiotherapist, dentist, chiropody, and for try-out of means of assistance.

As a permit holder you pay 60 SEK each way for the journey. Keep the receipt for the journey as well as the receipt from the medical care. You will not have to pay more the 1 500 SEK during 12 months. When you have reached that sum, you won´t have to pay any fare for the rest of 12 months counted from the date of the first receipt. You must yourself see when you have reached the sum in question and submit your receipts in order to get a free pass. Send your receipts to Regionens hus, Sjukreseenheten, 507 17 Borås.

You can get more information at tel. 17 48 95.

Our information about you
All our journeys are planned with the help of computers. The service desk can see

  • that you have a travel permit
  • what type of vehicle you can travel in
  • if you can sit in a backseat
  • if you have the right to a follower
  • if you have a wheel-chair or other means of assistance.

This information can be registered only by the transportation service officers. Let them know

  • if you change name, address or telephone number
  • if there are changes in your handicap.

The driver gets a written order in the car, stating your name, where you are to be picked up, and your destination.

If you want to know what information about you we have in our data-bank, you can call the Technical department.
