IB MISSION STATEMENT
The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
The IB is a challenging, academic program which prepares students for university studies throughout the world. The IB develops the whole person, intellectually, creatively and socially.
The teaching, textbooks and examinations in the Diploma Programme are in English, which means you must have a strong command of English. Acceptance into the programme is based upon your present grades/marks, entrance tests in English and Mathematics and an interview, if necessary.
NO TUITION FEES
The Borås Municipality does not charge any fees for the IB Diploma Programme. Your IB education consists of 3 years: one preparatory year (Pre Diploma Year) and 2 IB years.
The programme is demanding and requires that you are committed to your studies. If you succeed, you will be awarded the IB Diploma which allows you to seek entrance to top universities in Sweden and abroad.
PRE DIPLOMA YEAR
The first year prepares you for the challenge of IB years 1 and 2. The different subjects offered will help you choose which subjects you will continue studying in the Diploma Programme.
IB YEARS 2 AND 3
During the next two years, you will follow the curriculum of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The six subject groups listed below are offered and you choose 1 subject from each group to study over the two years. Three of the subjects are studied at Higher Level (HL) and three subjects are studied at Standard Level (SL). Additional information about the subjects is presented during the Pre Diploma Year to help you make the right choices for your future academic and employment goals.
Since the IB education strives to develop the whole person, the curriculum includes three additional requirements:
TOK: Theory of Knowledge
This course aims at developing critical thinking skills and examines connections between the different bases of knowledge.
CAS: Creativity Activity Service
The CAS Programme encourages students to participate in school- and community-based activities.
An in-depth study intended to promote high-level reserch and writing skills.
